PITLANESTATS

The Story

The 2007 season was one of F1's most extraordinary: a rookie sensation in Lewis Hamilton led the championship for most of the year while his teammate and reigning champion Fernando Alonso grew increasingly bitter about what he saw as McLaren's favouritism. The rivalry between them became toxic, culminating in the Hungary qualifying scandal where Alonso deliberately blocked Hamilton in the pit lane. While McLaren's drivers destroyed each other, Kimi Raikkonen quietly picked up the pieces for Ferrari. Hamilton needed only a decent finish in Brazil but his gearbox jammed, dropping him from the points, while Raikkonen won to take the title by a single point from both McLaren drivers. It was the tightest three-way finish in championship history.
