About Mário de Araújo Cabral
Mário de Araújo Cabral, a Portuguese driver born in 1934, made four World Championship starts spread across the 1959, 1960, 1963 and 1964 seasons. He was the first of very few Portuguese drivers to appear in the championship's early decades.
His initial two appearances came with Cooper-Maserati machinery, after which a two-year gap separated his return in a Cooper-Climax in 1963 and a final outing in a Derrington in 1964.
None of his four starts brought points. His pattern of single annual appearances with privateer equipment, beginning at the age of twenty-five, reflects the occasional nature of Grand Prix opportunities for drivers from outside the sport's established racing nations at the time.
