Johnny Cecotto

Johnny Cecotto, a Venezuelan driver born in 1956, competed in Formula 1 across the 1983 and 1984 seasons, making eighteen starts in total.

He made his debut with the small Theodore team in 1983 at the age of 27 and managed to score a championship point that year, classifying twentieth in the standings. Under the scoring system of the day, which rewarded only the top six finishers, even a single point for a team of Theodore's modest resources was a creditable return.

For 1984 Cecotto moved to Toleman, but the season brought no further points and proved to be his last in the World Championship. His career closed with one point, no podiums and no pole positions from his eighteen starts.

Two seasons with two different teams, and a points score achieved with the less competitive of them, summarise a Formula 1 career that was brief but not without its rewards.
