About Robert Doornbos

Robert Doornbos, a Dutch driver born in 1981, made eleven Formula 1 starts across the 2005 and 2006 seasons. His debut came with Minardi in 2005, at the age of twenty-three, driving for the perennial backmarkers in the Italian team's final year under that name; he was classified twenty-fifth in the championship.

For 2006 Doornbos moved to Red Bull, making his race appearances for the Milton Keynes team late in the season and ending the year twenty-fourth in the standings — a one-place improvement on his debut classification, though again without reward on the scoreboard.

Neither campaign brought World Championship points. The Minardi machinery of 2005 in particular offered little realistic chance of a top-eight finish under the scoring system of the day, and his Red Bull outings the following year were too few to build momentum.

Doornbos's Grand Prix record closed after 2006: eleven starts, two teams and two seasons, a brief career that nonetheless spanned both ends of the pit lane's fortunes — from Formula 1's smallest independent to a team then building toward the front.
