About Eric van de Poele
Eric van de Poele, a Belgian driver born in 1961, made six Formula 1 starts across the 1991 and 1992 seasons. He arrived in the championship at 29 with the Lambo team, one of the era's smallest outfits, before moving to Brabham for 1992; the Fondmetal operation also appears among his teams.
Neither season brought championship points, and he went unclassified in the standings both years. Racing for backmarker teams at a time when grids were oversubscribed and simply making the race was a challenge, van de Poele's six starts represent hard-won appearances in some of the least competitive machinery of the early 1990s.
His World Championship involvement ended after 1992, a two-season career spent entirely at the back of the field.
