Stoffel Vandoorne

Stoffel Vandoorne, a Belgian driver born in 1992, competed in Formula 1 from 2016 to 2018, making forty-two starts, all with McLaren. His first appearance came in 2016, when a single point from limited outings placed him twentieth in the championship.

Promoted to a full-time seat for 2017, he scored thirteen points and finished sixteenth in the standings, then repeated that championship position in 2018 with twelve points. His two full seasons coincided with a difficult period for McLaren, and the machinery seldom allowed a fight for top honours.

Vandoorne left the championship with twenty-six points and no podiums, poles or fastest laps from his three seasons. His entire Formula 1 career was spent with a single team, a rarity among drivers of his generation, and his scoring in each of his three seasons showed a consistency the results sheet only partly rewards.
