Bill Aston

Bill Aston, a British driver born in 1900, made two World Championship starts in 1952, driving for Aston Butterworth. At around 52 years of age, he was among the oldest drivers to start a championship Grand Prix, having been born in the final year of the nineteenth century.

Neither start yielded points, and the 1952 season remained his only one in the championship. His brief record with the small Aston Butterworth concern is a snapshot of the early years of the World Championship, when independent British specials and their owner-drivers could still find a place on the grid.
