Martin Donnelly

Martin Donnelly, a British driver born in 1964, made fifteen Formula 1 starts across the 1989 and 1990 seasons. His Grand Prix career began with an appearance for Arrows in 1989, when he was twenty-five years old, giving him a first taste of championship racing before a full-time opportunity arrived.

For 1990 Donnelly secured a race seat with Team Lotus, one of the sport's most storied names, though by that period the team was no longer the front-running force it had once been. He contested the bulk of the season for the Norfolk outfit, and the majority of his fifteen career starts came in that single Lotus campaign.

Neither of his two seasons brought World Championship points. The Lotus of 1990 was unable to give him regular access to the top-six finishes that scored under the era's system, and his earlier Arrows outing had likewise gone unrewarded.

Donnelly's Formula 1 record closed after 1990: a two-season career of fifteen starts split between Arrows and Lotus, without points, wins, podiums or poles, ending sooner than his rapid progression from a one-off drive to a seat at a famous team might have suggested.
