The 1989 Season
The simmering Senna-Prost feud exploded in 1989, the McLaren teammates colliding at the chicane during the penultimate round at Suzuka. Senna recovered and crossed the line first but was controversially disqualified, handing the title to Alain Prost, who took his third championship.
Prost departed for Ferrari at season's end as relations with Senna became irreparable. McLaren-Honda again won the constructors' title in a year remembered for one of the most bitter and disputed championship deciders in F1 history.
