Marcus Ericsson

Marcus Ericsson, a Swedish driver born in 1990, competed in Formula 1 for five consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2018, making ninety-seven Grand Prix starts and scoring eighteen World Championship points. He debuted at twenty-three with Caterham, enduring a pointless first season with the struggling backmarker and a classification of nineteenth in the championship.

For 2015 Ericsson moved to Sauber, and the change brought immediate reward: nine points and eighteenth in the standings, comfortably his strongest campaign to that point. He would remain with the Swiss team for the rest of his Formula 1 career.

The middle years of his Sauber tenure were leaner — no points in either 2016 or 2017 — before he rebounded in his final season of 2018 with another nine-point haul, matching his 2015 total and securing seventeenth in the championship, his best final classification.

Ericsson's record shows a career of two symmetrical halves at Sauber, with his points split evenly between his first and last seasons there. Across nearly a hundred starts he never reached the podium, but he departed Formula 1 having scored in his final campaign, ending on one of the stronger notes of his five years.
