About Luigi Fagioli
Luigi Fagioli's Formula 1 record is among the most concentrated in the championship's history: eight starts, six podium finishes, one win and thirty-two points, all achieved with Alfa Romeo across the first two seasons of the World Championship. Born in 1898, the Italian was already fifty-one years old when the series began in 1950.
That first season was outstanding. Fagioli finished third in the inaugural drivers' championship with twenty-four points, a remarkable return that underlined the strength of both driver and car in the championship's opening year.
In 1951 he added the crowning achievement of his brief championship career — a Grand Prix victory, taken at the age of fifty-three. He was classified eleventh that season with four points, and his eight-start career closed with a win rate of 12.5 per cent and a podium in three of every four races he started.
