Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo's relationship with Formula 1 stretches back to the very beginning. The Milanese marque, whose pre-war racing team had been managed by a young Enzo Ferrari, dominated the first two World Championship seasons with the legendary Alfetta 158/159.

Giuseppe Farina won the inaugural 1950 title and Juan Manuel Fangio took the 1951 championship, both in the supercharged straight-eight Alfa Romeos. The marque then withdrew as a works entrant, later returning in various guises as an engine supplier and, in the 1980s, a works team again. In the modern era the Alfa Romeo name returned to the grid as a title partner of the Sauber team.

Across its different incarnations, Alfa Romeo's heritage as the sport's first dominant force gives it a special place in Formula 1 history.

Alfa Romeo was Formula 1's first superpower, winning the championship before any other team had the chance. Its early dominance, deep racing heritage and recurring returns to the grid make the cloverleaf badge one of the most evocative in the sport, forever linked to the very birth of the World Championship.
