Emanuele Pirro

Emanuele Pirro, an Italian driver born in 1962, made 37 Formula 1 starts across three seasons between 1989 and 1991. He entered the championship at 27 with Benetton, scoring two points in his debut year to be classified 23rd in the standings.

For 1990 he moved to the small Dallara team, where the going was considerably harder: he finished the year without a point and unclassified in the championship. He stayed with Dallara for 1991 and managed a modest improvement, adding a single point and taking 18th place in the final standings.

Pirro's career totals of three points from 37 starts reflect the machinery at his disposal more than anything else — after his season with a midfield Benetton, he spent two years wrestling an uncompetitive car towards the lower reaches of the points. That any points came at all in the Dallara years, under a system that paid only the top six finishers, was an achievement in itself.

His Formula 1 record closed after 1991, a three-season career split between one established constructor and one struggling newcomer.
