David Purley

David Purley, a British driver born in 1945, made eight Formula 1 starts in two seasons separated by a notable gap: he first appeared in 1973 with March, then returned four years later in 1977 driving for the small LEC operation.

Neither campaign produced championship points, and he went unclassified in the standings in both years. His equipment was privateer-grade in each case — a customer March in his first season and the little-known LEC in his second.

The four-season interval between his two spells makes his record unusual among drivers with such brief careers, and after 1977 his World Championship involvement ended with eight starts to his name.
