The 1977 Season
Niki Lauda won his second World Championship in 1977, driving consistently for Ferrari to secure the title before season's end, then promptly left the Scuderia for Brabham amid a strained relationship with the team. Ferrari nonetheless took the constructors' championship.
The year also saw a technical revolution begin with the debut of the Renault RS01, Formula 1's first turbocharged car. Initially unreliable and mocked as the "yellow teapot," it foreshadowed the turbo era that would soon transform the sport.
