Ray Crawford

Ray Crawford, an American driver born in 1915, made three World Championship starts in the 1950s, when the Indianapolis 500 counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship. His appearances came in 1955 and 1956 in Kurtis Kraft machinery, with a final start in 1959 aboard an Elder chassis.

Already approaching forty when he first appeared in the championship statistics, Crawford scored no points and was never classified in the standings across his three outings.

His record — three Indianapolis appearances spread across five seasons, in two makes of American oval-racing chassis — is characteristic of the Speedway regulars whose names entered the Formula 1 record books during the championship's first decade.
