The 1955 Season
Fangio took a third world title in a year overshadowed by tragedy, leading a crushing Mercedes-Benz campaign alongside the young Stirling Moss, who scored his first F1 win at his home British Grand Prix. Fangio and Moss finished first and second in the standings as Mercedes swept the field.
The season was defined by the catastrophic Le Mans disaster in June, where more than 80 spectators were killed in motorsport's worst accident. Several Grands Prix were cancelled in the aftermath, and at season's end Mercedes-Benz withdrew entirely from racing.
