Basil van Rooyen

Basil van Rooyen, a South African driver born in 1939, made two World Championship starts, one in each of the 1968 and 1969 seasons. He first appeared in a Cooper-Climax in 1968, then returned a year later at the wheel of a McLaren-Ford.

Neither outing brought points or a championship classification, and his second start proved to be his last. His brief record — two starts with two different chassis over two consecutive seasons — is typical of the local drivers of the period who made occasional championship appearances without securing a full-time drive.
