Carroll Shelby

Carroll Shelby, an American driver born in 1923, made nine Formula 1 World Championship starts across the 1958 and 1959 seasons. He was around thirty-five when he debuted, driving Maserati machinery in his first campaign.

For 1959 he moved to Aston Martin, giving him the relatively rare distinction for an American driver of the era of contesting the road-racing Grands Prix of the World Championship rather than only its American round.

His two seasons produced no championship points, and he did not return to Formula 1 after 1959, leaving a record of nine starts split between two of the sport's storied marques.
