Johnnie Tolan

Johnnie Tolan, an American driver born in 1917, made three World Championship starts in consecutive seasons from 1956 to 1958. His appearances came at the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960.

He drove Kurtis Kraft chassis in 1956 and 1957 before switching to a Kuzma for his final start in 1958. None of the three outings brought championship points.

Tolan was nearly thirty-nine when he made his first championship appearance, and his three-year record is representative of the many American oval specialists whose Formula 1 statistics derive entirely from the Indianapolis 500's championship years.
