The 1957 Season
Fangio captured his fifth and final world title, a record that would stand for nearly half a century, driving the Maserati 250F. The season is immortalised by his astonishing victory at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, where a slow pit stop left him nearly a minute behind before he produced one of the greatest drives in history to catch and pass the Ferraris of Hawthorn and Collins.
That Nürburgring charge, breaking the lap record repeatedly, sealed the championship and Fangio's legend. It proved to be the great Argentine's last full season at the front of Grand Prix racing.
