About Stewart

Stewart Grand Prix was founded by triple World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart and his son Paul, entering Formula 1 in 1997 with Ford backing and the distinctive tartan livery that honoured the family's Scottish heritage.

For a brand-new team, Stewart enjoyed a rapid rise. Rubens Barrichello took a remarkable second place in only the team's fifth race at a wet Monaco, and the high point came at the 1999 European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, where Johnny Herbert won in chaotic conditions to give the team its sole victory.

At the end of 1999 Ford bought the team outright and rebranded it as Jaguar Racing, bringing the Stewart name's brief but successful Formula 1 chapter to a close.
