About Edgar Barth

Edgar Barth, a German driver born in 1917, made seven World Championship starts spread across six seasons between 1953 and 1964 — an unusually long span for so few appearances. He debuted with EMW in 1953, at around 36 years of age.

After a four-year absence he returned in 1957 with Porsche, the marque with which he would make most of his championship appearances, racing for them in 1957, 1958, 1960 and 1961. A final start came in 1964 aboard a Cooper-Climax, when he was in his late forties.

Barth never scored championship points and was unclassified in every season he contested. His record — occasional entries over more than a decade rather than full campaigns — is characteristic of drivers of the era who dipped into Grand Prix racing selectively while the bulk of their racing took place elsewhere.
