About Anthony Davidson

Anthony Davidson, a British driver born in 1979, made twenty-four Formula 1 starts spread across four seasons between 2002 and 2008. His Grand Prix career came in fragments: a debut with Minardi in 2002 at the age of twenty-three, a single appearance for BAR in 2005, and finally a full-time seat with Super Aguri for 2007 and 2008.

The gaps in Davidson's racing record — no starts in 2003, 2004 or 2006 — tell the story of a driver who spent much of the decade on the fringes of a race seat rather than in one. When the opportunity finally arrived with Super Aguri, it came with one of the smallest teams on the grid.

His two seasons with the Japanese outfit yielded classifications of twenty-third in 2007 and twenty-second in 2008, but no championship points; the team's resources were never sufficient to put him in contention for the top-eight finishes that scored under the system of the time.

Davidson's final record of twenty-four starts without a point owes much to the machinery he drove — Minardi and Super Aguri were perennial backmarkers — and his career stands as an example of a driver whose Formula 1 chances came almost exclusively at the wrong end of the pit lane.
