About Duke Dinsmore

Duke Dinsmore, an American driver born in 1913, made four World Championship starts between 1950 and 1956, each of them at the Indianapolis 500, the race that formed part of the Formula 1 World Championship during the 1950s. He was among the field for the very first championship Indianapolis 500 in 1950, driving a Kurtis Kraft, at the age of thirty-seven.

He returned in 1951 with a Schroeder chassis, then made further Kurtis Kraft appearances in 1953 and 1956. None of the four outings produced championship points.

Dinsmore's record — four starts spread across seven seasons — reflects the intermittent nature of many Indianapolis careers of the era, with qualification for the race itself a significant hurdle each May.
