Harald Ertl

Harald Ertl, an Austrian driver born in 1948, made twenty Formula 1 starts across four consecutive seasons from 1975 to 1978. He entered the World Championship at the age of twenty-six with Hesketh, the British team with which he would spend most of his career.

Ertl drove for Hesketh for three straight seasons, from 1975 through 1977, a period in which the team's fortunes never allowed him to break into the points-paying top six.

For 1978, his final year in Grand Prix racing, he switched to Ensign, another small British outfit, but the change brought no upturn in results.

His career closed with twenty starts and no World Championship points — a record shaped by four seasons spent entirely in the lower reaches of the 1970s grids, where reliable point-scoring machinery was out of reach.
