About Teo Fabi

Teo Fabi, an Italian driver born in 1955, started sixty-four Grands Prix across five Formula 1 seasons between 1982 and 1987. His statistics tell an unusual story: three pole positions but not a single victory, making him a rare example of a driver with genuine one-lap speed whose results on race day never quite matched.

Fabi's career began with Toleman in 1982, a debut season that yielded no points. He was absent from the championship in 1983 before returning in 1984 with Brabham, where he scored nine points and finished twelfth in the drivers' standings.

A second spell at Toleman in 1985 again brought no points, but a move to Benetton for 1986 and 1987 gave his career its strongest stretch. After two points in 1986, he collected twelve in 1987 to claim ninth in the championship — his best final position.

In total Fabi recorded two podium finishes, three poles and twenty-three points. His willingness to move between teams — Toleman, Brabham and Benetton, with a return to his first employer along the way — was a defining feature of a career that promised more than its win column ultimately showed.
