The 1985 Season
Alain Prost finally claimed his first World Championship in 1985 after years of near-misses, becoming the first French World Champion. The McLaren driver's calculated consistency carried him past Ferrari's Michele Alboreto in the second half of the season.
McLaren retained the constructors' title as the TAG turbo package remained the class of the field. Prost's "Professor" approach of maximizing points proved the perfect formula in the volatile turbo era.
