Jerry Hoyt

Jerry Hoyt, an American driver born in 1929, made five World Championship starts between 1950 and 1955, all at the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960.

He drove Kurtis Kraft chassis in 1950, 1953 and 1954 before switching to a Stevens for 1955, and it was in that final season that he claimed the standout achievement of his championship record: pole position.

Hoyt never scored points, making him an unusual case of a driver with a World Championship pole but no points finishes, his qualifying feat standing as the clear highlight of his five starts.
