Rupert Keegan

Rupert Keegan, a British driver born in 1955, competed in Formula 1 between 1977 and 1982, making twenty-seven Grand Prix starts. His career was an intermittent one, taking in four seasons spread across six years with four different teams.

He debuted with Hesketh in 1977 at the age of twenty-two, then moved to Surtees for 1978. After sitting out the 1979 season he returned in 1980 with Williams machinery, before a final campaign in 1982 aboard a March.

None of his four seasons yielded championship points, and he was never classified in the final drivers' standings. The stop-start pattern of his career, with two separate year-long absences from the grid, was characteristic of drivers operating at the less secure end of the field in that era.

Keegan's Formula 1 record closed after 1982: twenty-seven starts, four teams, and a career that repeatedly found its way back to the grid without ever finding its way into the points.
