Williams Grand Prix Engineering, founded by Sir Frank Williams and engineer Patrick Head, is one of the most successful independent teams in Formula 1 history. After years of struggle running customer cars, Frank's perseverance paid off when the team's own designs began winning in the late 1970s, and Williams grew into a championship powerhouse through the 1980s and 1990s.

The team won its first constructors' title in 1980 and its first drivers' crown with Alan Jones the same year. A run of dominant cars followed, taking championships with Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The Williams-Renault partnership of the early-to-mid 1990s produced some of the fastest cars the sport has ever seen, and the team's nine constructors' titles place it among the all-time greats.

Frank Williams's leadership, continued after the 1986 road accident that left him using a wheelchair, made the team a symbol of resilience. After his retirement and the family's sale of the team in 2020, Williams entered a new chapter as it works to rebuild towards the front of the grid.

Williams stands for independent, engineering-led racing and the indomitable spirit of its founder.
