About Pete Lovely
Pete Lovely, an American driver born in 1926, accumulated seven World Championship starts in a career notable for its unusual shape: a debut in 1960 followed by a gap of nearly a decade before he returned to the grid.
His first appearance came in 1960 with a Cooper-Castellotti. He then resurfaced in 1969 driving Lotus-Ford machinery, and continued to enter races in 1970 with Team Lotus and in 1971 again with a Lotus-Ford, in the manner of a privateer picking his events.
None of his seven starts brought championship points, but a Formula 1 record spanning 1960 to 1971 — eleven years from first start to last — made Lovely's an uncommonly long, if sparse, involvement with the World Championship.
