About Cal Niday

Cal Niday was an American driver born in 1914 whose three World Championship starts all came at the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960.

Niday's championship record spans three consecutive years, from 1953 to 1955. He drove a Stevens chassis in 1954 before switching to a Kurtis Kraft, one of the dominant American oval-racing marques of the decade, for his final appearance in 1955.

None of his three starts yielded points, and he was not classified in the championship standings in any of those seasons. Having made his debut at around 39 years of age, Niday belonged to the generation of established American oval racers whose careers intersected with the World Championship purely through the Indianapolis 500's inclusion on the calendar.
