About Franco Rol
Franco Rol, an Italian driver born in 1908, took part in the first three seasons of the Formula 1 World Championship, making five starts between 1950 and 1952. Already in his early forties when the championship began, he was one of the older competitors on the grid in those founding years.
He began with Maserati in 1950, switched to the small Italian OSCA concern for 1951, and returned to Maserati machinery in 1952. None of the three campaigns brought points, a common fate for privateers running Italian customer cars against the leading works teams of the day. His five starts without a score closed out his championship record after 1952.
