Gabriele Tarquini

Gabriele Tarquini, an Italian driver born in 1962, competed in Formula 1 between 1987 and 1995, making thirty-eight starts across seven seasons. His career was spent almost entirely with small teams fighting at the back of the grid: Osella, Coloni, AGS, Fondmetal and finally Tyrrell.

He debuted with Osella in 1987 and spent 1988 at Coloni before beginning a three-year association with AGS in 1989. That first AGS season produced the high point of his championship career: a single point, enough for twenty-seventh in the standings and the only score he would register in Formula 1.

Tarquini stayed with AGS through 1990 and 1991, then moved to Fondmetal for 1992, but no further points followed. After a two-year absence from the championship he made a final return with Tyrrell in 1995 before his Grand Prix career ended.

His record of one point from thirty-eight starts reflects the uncompetitive machinery he drove throughout; five different teams in seven seasons, all of them minnows of their era, meant opportunities to score were rare indeed.
