About Osella

Osella was a small Italian team that competed in Formula 1 throughout the 1980s, having graduated from sports-car racing. Founded by Enzo Osella, it was a quintessential back-of-grid privateer, battling for survival against far larger and better-funded rivals.

For most of its existence Osella struggled near the rear of the field, its cars often uncompetitive and unreliable, and points finishes were rare and treasured. The team nonetheless persevered for more than a decade through sheer determination.

In the early 1990s the team was sold and rebranded as Fondmetal, bringing the Osella name's long Formula 1 struggle to an end.
