Sherman

Sherman was an American constructor whose Formula 1 record stems from the Indianapolis 500, which counted towards the Drivers' World Championship from 1950 to 1960. Its cars contested the great American oval race between 1951 and 1952, when the Brickyard sat on the championship calendar alongside the European road courses.

The team never won a race or finished on the podium, but it did score championship points during its time on the grid, a respectable return for a small operation competing against far better-resourced rivals.

Drivers to appear for the team included George Fonder and Andy Linden.

Sherman belongs to a fascinating and often overlooked chapter of Formula 1 history, the decade when the Indianapolis 500 formed part of the World Championship. Its presence in the record books reflects the unique period when American oval racing and European Grand Prix racing shared a championship, however loosely.
