About Andy Linden

Andy Linden, an American driver born in 1922, appears in Formula 1 records thanks to the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the World Championship from 1950 to 1960. His eleven championship starts came across seven consecutive seasons from 1951 to 1957.

He made an immediate impression, scoring three points in 1951 with a Sherman chassis to finish fourteenth in that year's drivers' standings. The middle years of his run, spent largely aboard Kurtis Kraft machinery from 1953 onward, brought no further points.

His scoring touch returned at the very end: in 1957 he added two more points with a Kurtis Kraft, placing nineteenth in the championship in what proved his final season.

Five points from eleven starts, earned entirely on the Indianapolis oval, make Linden one of the more persistent of the American entrants whose names populate the Formula 1 tables of the 1950s.
