About Carel Godin de Beaufort

Carel Godin de Beaufort was a Dutch driver who competed in the World Championship from 1957 to 1964, accumulating twenty-nine starts across eight consecutive seasons. Born in 1934, he made his debut with Porsche at around 23 years of age.

Porsche machinery defined almost his entire career: apart from a single season with Cooper-Climax in 1960, every one of his campaigns was conducted in cars from the German marque, which he ran as a privateer long after the works effort had moved on.

His persistence was eventually rewarded. After five seasons without points, de Beaufort scored two points in 1962 and two more in 1963, earning classifications of seventeenth and fourteenth in the championship — the latter his best final position. Under the scoring rules of the period, points finishes for a privateer in ageing equipment were considerable achievements.

With four career points from twenty-nine starts, his record reflects one of the most committed privateer efforts of the early 1960s: eight straight seasons of Grand Prix racing sustained largely outside the works-team system.
