About Eugenio Castellotti

Eugenio Castellotti, an Italian driver born in 1930, competed in the Formula 1 World Championship from 1955 to 1957, making seventeen starts. He arrived with Lancia in 1955 at the age of 24 and made an immediate impression, finishing third in the drivers' championship with twelve points in his very first season — a result that would stand as his career best.

For 1956 Castellotti moved to Ferrari, where he scored 7.5 points and placed sixth in the championship. His final season, in 1957, again with Ferrari, brought no points.

Although a Grand Prix victory eluded him, Castellotti's record shows genuine speed: he took three pole positions and three podium finishes in a career of only seventeen starts, and his twenty championship points were gathered almost entirely within his first two seasons.

A top-three championship finish as a rookie, achieved against the works teams of the mid-1950s, remains the defining entry in his statistical record.
