About Art Cross

Art Cross, an American driver born in 1918, made four World Championship starts between 1952 and 1955, all in Kurtis Kraft chassis at the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960.

He scored in each of his first two seasons: two points in 1952 and six in 1953, the latter including a podium finish at the Speedway and tenth place in that year's drivers' championship — a strong showing against the road-racing regulars who filled the rest of the standings.

His 1954 and 1955 appearances brought no further points, and his championship career closed with eight points and one podium from four starts, among the better records of the American oval-racing contingent of the era.
