Pedro Diniz

Pedro Diniz, a Brazilian driver born in 1970, competed in Formula 1 for six consecutive seasons from 1995 to 2000, making ninety-nine Grand Prix starts and scoring ten World Championship points. He entered the sport at twenty-four with the small Forti team, an all-Brazilian operation with which he endured a pointless debut year.

A move to Ligier for 1996 transformed his prospects: he scored two points and was classified fifteenth in the championship. Two seasons at Arrows followed, bringing two points in 1997 and then three in 1998, the latter good for fourteenth in the standings — his joint-best championship finish.

Diniz joined Sauber for 1999 and matched that result exactly: three points and fourteenth place. His second season with the Swiss team in 2000, however, ended without a point, and it proved to be his last in Formula 1.

Across four teams and nearly a hundred starts, Diniz never finished on the podium, but he scored points in four consecutive seasons from 1996 to 1999 under a system that rewarded only the top six finishers — a run of consistency in midfield and lower-midfield machinery that few of his backmarker contemporaries matched.
