About Ligier
Ligier was France's flag-bearer in Formula 1 for two decades, founded by former rugby player and racing driver Guy Ligier. The team's distinctive blue cars, often backed by the Gitanes cigarette brand, were a fixture of the grid from the mid-1970s.
Ligier enjoyed its strongest period in the late 1970s and early 1980s, fighting at the front with drivers such as Jacques Laffite and winning multiple Grands Prix. The JS11 of 1979 was briefly the class of the field. The team carried French national pride and benefited from close ties to the country's motorsport establishment.
After a long and proud career, Ligier was sold in the mid-1990s and its assets were absorbed into what became the Prost Grand Prix team.
