Vic Elford

Vic Elford, a British driver born in 1935, made thirteen Formula 1 starts between 1968 and 1971, scoring eight World Championship points. He was a late arrival to Grand Prix racing, debuting in 1968 at the age of thirty-two with Cooper-BRM.

That first season proved his best: five points and eighteenth place in the championship. He stayed with the Cooper stable for 1969, now in Cooper-Maserati machinery, adding three more points and improving to fourteenth in the standings — the strongest championship position of his career.

After missing the 1970 season, Elford made a brief return in 1971 with BRM, an appearance that brought no further points and closed his Grand Prix record.

All eight of his career points were scored in his first two seasons, under a system that rewarded only the top six finishers, making his early Cooper years the clear high-water mark of a compact three-season Formula 1 career.
