About Brett Lunger

Brett Lunger, an American driver born in 1945, contested 34 World Championship Grands Prix between 1975 and 1978, a four-season career spent entirely in midfield and back-of-grid machinery.

He arrived in Formula 1 with Hesketh in 1975, moved to Surtees for 1976, and drove a March in 1977. His final season, 1978, was spent in a McLaren; he also appeared with Ensign during his career. Changing teams every year, Lunger never found a settled home in the championship.

Despite the respectable tally of 34 starts, he never scored a point. Under the scoring system of the day only the top six finishers were rewarded, and none of the cars Lunger drove put those positions within regular reach. His career is thus one of persistence across four seasons rather than headline results — a driver who kept finding a seat, year after year, with five different constructors.
