Sergio Mantovani

Sergio Mantovani, an Italian driver born in 1929, made nine World Championship starts for Maserati across three consecutive seasons, from 1953 to 1955.

The middle year was his best: in 1954 he scored four points, enough for sixteenth place in the World Championship — a creditable return under a system that rewarded only the top five finishers. His first and last seasons passed without points.

A Maserati man throughout, Mantovani ended his Formula 1 career at 26 with nine starts and four points, his brief record tied entirely to the fortunes of the Modena marque in the mid-1950s.
