Gianni Morbidelli

Gianni Morbidelli, an Italian driver born in 1968, competed in Formula 1 across six seasons between 1990 and 1997, making sixty-eight starts for five teams: Dallara, Minardi, Ferrari, Footwork and Sauber.

His early years were spent in Italy's smaller teams. After a pointless start with Dallara in 1990, he scored half a point with Minardi in 1991 — a fractional reward reflecting a shortened race — before a scoreless 1992 with the same team.

Following a year away from the championship in 1993, Morbidelli returned with Footwork and enjoyed his best spell: three points in 1994, then five points and a podium finish in 1995, when he placed fourteenth in the standings. That podium, achieved for the modest Footwork team, was the high point of his career.

After another absence in 1996 he made a final appearance with Sauber in 1997, without adding to his total of eight points. A career interrupted twice by year-long gaps, spread across five constructors, ended with that Swiss swansong.
