About Luigi Piotti
Luigi Piotti was an Italian privateer of the mid-1950s whose World Championship career comprised seven starts across the 1955, 1956 and 1957 seasons. Born in 1913, he was already past forty when he made his debut, appearing first with the small Arzani-Volpini operation in 1955.
For 1956 he switched to Maserati machinery, which he continued to race through 1957. Despite the more established Italian equipment, points proved out of reach, and he ended his three seasons without a championship score or a classified position in the standings.
Piotti's record is typical of the independent entrants who filled out grids in the first decade of the World Championship: a handful of appearances, customer machinery, and no reward in the points table, but a presence across three consecutive seasons of top-level racing.
