About Mika Salo

Mika Salo is a Finnish driver who made 111 World Championship starts across eight racing seasons between 1994 and 2002, driving for seven different teams. He debuted with Team Lotus at the end of 1994, aged twenty-seven, before establishing himself at Tyrrell, where he spent three full seasons from 1995 to 1997 and scored points in each of them.

A year with Arrows in 1998 was followed by 1999, statistically his best season: ten points and tenth place in the drivers' championship. His career total also includes two podium finishes and a spell with Ferrari, making him one of the few Finns to drive for the Italian team.

He continued with Sauber in 2000, scoring six points, then after a year away returned for a final campaign with the brand-new Toyota team in 2002, taking two points in the marque's debut season before stepping away from Formula 1.

Salo's final ledger — thirty-three points, two podiums, points in seven of his eight racing seasons — reflects a career spent almost entirely in midfield machinery, where consistent scoring under the top-six system was an achievement in itself.
