Ayrton Senna

Ayrton Senna is revered as one of the greatest and most charismatic drivers in the history of Formula 1, a three-time World Champion whose genius behind the wheel and intensity of spirit transcended the sport. The Brazilian took 41 wins, an extraordinary 65 pole positions and 80 podiums from 161 starts, his qualifying record long standing as a measure of pure, untouchable speed.

Senna announced himself in 1984 with a stunning wet-weather drive for Toleman at Monaco, then established himself with Lotus before moving to McLaren, where he won his three championships in 1988, 1990 and 1991. His ferocious rivalry with team-mate Alain Prost produced some of the most dramatic moments the sport has seen, including their championship-deciding collisions at Suzuka. A master of street circuits, he won at Monaco a record six times. His career and life were tragically cut short in an accident at Imola during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix while leading for Williams.
